UNVT Portable Hands

On Tuesday, October 8 at 2:30 PM, in Room Fassò (Building 4A, Piazza Leonardo da Vinci, 32), a seminar titled “UNVT (United Nations Vector Tile Toolkit) Portable Hands“ will be held by Professor Taichi Furuhashi (Aoyama Gakuin University, Shibuya, Japan).

Abstract
Join us for a hands-on session where we will implement the offline map server “UNVT Portable,” developed under the UN OpenGIS Initiative. This session will focus on building “UNVT Portable” and learning how to use web map technology in offline environments, which is particularly useful during disasters or in areas with unstable internet connections. We will also cover the basic use of Raspberry Pi, a cost-effective and versatile tool.
Speaker’s bio
Taichi Furuhashi is passionate about mapping, connecting local communities with maps and sharing knowledge to empower people. As you know, Huge Earthquake and Tsunami destroyed a lot of cities and local communities in East Japan area in 2011. They are trying to make more resilient society with Mapping, Panorama/VR, and Drone technology. Taichi is a professor of Aoyama Gakuin University and President of CrisisMappers Japan, NPO. Now he has started DRONEBIRD project with drones for Disaster Crisis Response.
