PhDTalks | A Unified Open-Source Framework for Geospatial Data Management in the Built and Natural Environment

The next event in the PhDTalks series will take place on Tuesday, June 24th, in the Fassò room hall (Building 4A), from 5:15 PM to 6:30 PM CET.
PhDTalks is a series of seminars and discussions among PhD students. The events aim to provide a space for networking among PhD students and connecting with the many projects developed within our department.
The speaker Federica Gaspari will lead a seminar titled “A Unified Open-Source Framework for Geospatial Data Management in the Built and Natural Environment”.
At the end of the event, a small refreshment will be available, funded by the department.
It will also be possible to attend the conference online at the following link.
Abstract
Managing geospatial data across the built and natural environment requires flexible, interoperable solutions. Today’s challenges call for integrating diverse spatial and thematic datasets, often limited by proprietary tools and fragmented workflows. This talk presents an open-source, modular framework designed to tackle these issues through streamlined geodata collection, management, and 2D/3D visualization. Real-world case studies—from civil infrastructure monitoring and glacier retreat analysis to cultural heritage documentation—demonstrate how customizable platforms can support data-driven decision-making. Ongoing research explores low-code solutions, IoT integration, and virtual reality features to further enhance usability and reproducibility in geomatics applications.
