Stochastic and non-stochastic assessment of complex hydrosystems

29 Ottobre 2025 @ 10:00 - 12:00

Mercoledì 29 ottobre si terrà un seminario presso l’aula Fassò (Edificio 4A) alle ore 10:00 dal titolo “Stochastic and non-stochastic assessment of complex hydrosystems”.

Il seminario sarà tenuto dal Prof. Alonso Pizarro, Universidad Diego Portales.

Abstract

Complex hydrosystems are related to high uncertainty due to the complexity of different processes and their interaction at various spatial and temporal scales. Usually, the main line of assessment relies on deterministic approaches, even though stochastics is the ideal way to move forward. This presentation uses deterministic, stochastic, and their combination to tackle complex hydrosystems. In particular, fluvial monitoring, bibliometric analysis, large-scale rainfall-runoff modelling, and applications to critical infrastructure are covered.

Speaker’s bio
Alonso Pizarro is a professor of hydrology & hydraulic engineering at Universidad Diego Portales. His research interests include hydrology, hydraulics, sediment transport, bridge scour, flood prediction, extreme flood events, stochastic processes in hydrology, environmental monitoring using Unmanned Aerial Systems (UASs), and remote sensing applications for fluvial monitoring. Alonso utilises advanced surveying and flow measurement techniques and laboratory experiments. He is proficient in advanced programming languages (Matlab and Python) and GIS software (QGIS), which he uses to manipulate and analyse complex datasets, regularly publishing research articles in leading international journals. Alonso has recently adopted open science practices, making available data, codes, and analyses.
