Two seminars will be held on Friday, January 30, from 9:30 to 11:00 CET, in the Grandori Room (Building 4).

It will be possible to attend the seminar both in person and online via Webex at the following link: https://politecnicomilano.webex.com/meet/mario.grosso

The first seminar, titled “Mapping chemicals of concern in plastic recycling streams using the EU SCIP database”, will be delivered by Dr. Masahiro Oguchi, Chief Senior Researcher at the Material Cycles Division of the National Institute for Environmental Studies (Japan). Profile is available at https://www.nies.go.jp/researchers-e/204498.html.

Abstract
This seminar examines how chemical additives of concern may enter plastic recycling streams through an analysis of the EU SCIP database. By linking substances of very high concern with polymer types and product categories, it identifies product–polymer combinations likely to contain problematic additives and discusses implications for targeted chemical management in circular plastics.

The second seminar, titled “Chemicals of concern in plastics: Measured occurrence and implications for chemical management and the circular economy”, will be presented by Dr. Natsuko Kajiwara, Prime Senior Researcher at the Material Cycles Division of the National Institute for Environmental Studies (Japan). Profile is available at https://www.nies.go.jp/researchers-e/202204.html.

Abstract
Plastics contain a wide range of additives that provide specific functions. Some of these substances raise concerns due to hazardous properties and are subject to international regulation. The seminar presents case studies on chemicals of concern unintentionally entering plastic recycling streams, with a focus on measured data from Japan.
