Full Professor of Construction Science at Politecnico di Milano since 2015 and Director of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering since 2023. He served as Deputy Director from 2017 to 2022. From 2001 to 2013, Prof. Frangi was Professeur Chargé de Cours at Ecole Polytechnique in Paris. His research activity focuses on computational methods for multi-physics and MEMS micro-structure problems (more than 150 publications) and is characterized by the management of numerous research projects funded by public and private entities.

He is currently a member of the Scientific Committee of the Joint Research Centers MEMS and STEAM between Politecnico di Milano and ST-Microelectronics and is a member of the editorial board of REMN-Revue Européenne de Mécanique numérique, CMES (Computer Modelling in Engineering & Science) and Actuators and is Micro- and Nanoelectromechanical Systems Review Editor for Frontiers in Mechanical Engineering.

Full Professor of Topography and Cartography at Politecnico di Milano since 2003 and Vice-Director of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering since 2023. His research activity concerns methods for estimating and approximating the Earth gravity field and analyzing crustal deformation in seismogenic areas by studying GNSS time series (more than 160 publications). He has managed research projects, both national and international, for public and private agencies. He has estimated the Italian geoid, which is the official reference of elevations at the national scale, and is currently PI of a PRIN2020 project to define the gravity system in Italy. He is a fellow of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), director of the International Gravity Field Service, the official IAG service dealing with the Earth's gravity field, an elected member of the IAG Executive Committee, Associate Editor of Heliyon, Journal of Geodetic Science and the Bulletin of Geophysics and Oceanography.
