Professor Francesco Ballio has been elected President of the Gruppo Italiano di Idraulica (GII), the Italian scientific society for hydraulics, hydrology and hydraulic and maritime engineering. The election took place during the XL National Conference on Hydraulics and Hydraulic Engineering.
The GII brings together the national scientific community in the field, promoting research, dialogue among scholars and the dissemination of hydraulic culture.
The appointment represents an important recognition of Prof. Ballio's contribution to the discipline and, at the same time, of the central role played by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in this area of research.
Giacomo Rizzieri, postdoctoral researcher at our Department, has been selected for theIDEA League Fellowship Exchange Program 2026/2027, promoted by Politecnico di Milano within the IDEA League alliance.
The programme supports research visiting periods at the partner institutions of the alliance — TU Delft, ETH Zürich, RWTH Aachen University and Chalmers University of Technology — with the aim of strengthening international collaborations and fostering joint research projects. Giacomo Rizzieri will spend three months atETH Zürich as a visiting researcher with the Computational Mechanics Group, led by Prof. Laura De Lorenzis.
Out of all the proposals submitted, the Selection Board chaired by the Vice-Rector for Talent Development awarded a grant to the ten highest-ranked applications, assessed on the quality and originality of the research proposal, the strength of the collaboration with the hosting institution and the potential for future competitive funding.
