Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rapid earthquake response can mean the difference between lives saved and lives lost. Accurately identifying the most affected areas in near real time allows emergency services to act more effectively. However, delivering accurate damage estimates in near real time requires significant computational power, something that is increasingly accessible thanks to modern advances in high-performance computing. This talk presents innovative projects that harness high-performance computing for seismic emergency response, from operational early warning systems and real-time impact assessment tools to cutting-edge workflows using Urgent Computing. The presentation will also include the ongoing PhD research focused on the Friuli Venezia Giulia region in Italy, where 3D physics-based simulations are being developed to support rapid, data-informed decision-making.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ileana holds a Master\u2019s degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Earthquake Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (2023), and a Civil Engineering degree from UNAM in Mexico. She is currently a PhD candidate in Structural, Seismic, and Geotechnical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. Her research focuses on near real-time earthquake impact assessment using high-fidelity 3D physics-based simulations. In particular, she is working on the development of an automated workflow for the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, aiming to support emergency decision-making through urgent computing and realistic ground motion modeling.<\/span><\/p>\n
