The MULTIFUN3D projectaims at developing a new class of components made of 3D printed core-shell structures with enhanced mechanical and functional properties. The use of Direct Ink Writing (DIW) technology will allow to combine metal and ceramic based inks to produce multi-materials 3D structures. The MULTIFUN3D project will focus on a specific case study, bio-implants, to define and overcome the scientific and technological issues related to the development of the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the scientific level it will focus on: 1) The development of a new class of metal-ceramic composite biomaterials to produce components with tailored structural and functional properties. 2) The understanding of the chemical and physical properties that drive the ink\u2019s rheological behavior and its printability. 3) The understanding of the mechanical characteristics of the developed materials and structures for the optimized design of personalized implants. 4) The understanding of the effect of controlled composition on specific functional properties such as bioactivity and osteo-conductivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the technological level this new class of components made of multi-materials will be realized by implementing DIW with a machine learning approach.
