DESCRIPTION:Il prossimo appuntamento con la serie di incontri PhDTalks si terrà Martedì 3 dicembre nell’aula Fassò (Edificio 4A)\, dalle 17:15 alle 18:30 CET. \nPhDTalks è una serie di seminari e discussioni tra dottorandi. Gli eventi hanno lo scopo di fornire un luogo dove creare un network tra dottorandi ed entrare in contatto con i molti progetti sviluppati nel nostro dipartimento. \nLo speaker Giacomo Marrazzo condurrà un seminario dal titolo “Study on toppling resistance of trees and of their effects as Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems: experimental tests at small-scale and at real-scale & hydrologic probabilistic modelling”.  \nAl termine dell’evento sarà disponibile un piccolo rinfresco finanziato dal dipartimento. \nSarà possibile seguire la conferenza anche online al seguente link. \nAbstract \nThe protection against toppling failure of trees requires a large multidisciplinary approach and\, in this perspective\, Geotechnical Engineering can provide a valuable contribution\, particularly when the attention is focused on the mechanisms of collapse due to root-plate overturning.This research aims to study not only the toppling resistance of trees but also their effects as Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS).Experimental tests both at small-scale\, on a simplified prototype\, and at real-scale by investigating different loading conditions will be shown. Moreover\, an analytical-probabilistic approach to evaluate the role of trees in the water cycle restoration and in reducing stormwater runoff will be presented. \nSpeaker’s bio \nGiacomo holds an MSc in Civil Engineering for Risk Mitigation from Politecnico di Milano\, in 2021. He is currently a PhD candidate in Structural\, Seismic and Geotechnical Engineering (38th cycle). His scholarship is interdisciplinary and it is co-founded by the Doctoral Program in Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering. His research focuses on the numerical and experimental study on toppling resistance of trees in urban areas and of their role as sustainable drainage systems for flooding control. \nOutside academia\, he is a non-professional basketball player and he plays for the club “Asm70 Pezzini Basket Morbegno”.

DESCRIPTION:Il prossimo seminario della Commissione Scientifica DICA (CS⁴) si terrà giovedì 5 dicembre in aula Grandori (Edificio 4 – seminterrato – Piazza Leonardo da Vinci\, 32)\, dalle 14:00 alle 17:30 CET. \nIl tema del seminario sarà la “Giornata Mondiale del Suolo“. SUMMARY:XJTU-PoliMi Dialogues in Civil and Environmental Engineering
DESCRIPTION:Martedì 10 Dicembre alle ore 12:00 CET\, si terrà il seminario intitolato “Dialoghi XJTU-PoliMi in Ingegneria Civile e Ambientale” sulla piattaforma VooV Meetings (per maggiori dettagli sull’accesso\, si prega di consultare il volantino allegato). \nQuesta iniziativa fa parte delle attività sviluppate nell’ambito della Joint School of Design and Innovation tra il Politecnico di Milano e la Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). \nIl seminario rientra in una serie di brevi incontri finalizzati a favorire una comprensione reciproca delle attività di ricerca condotte da PoliMi e XJTU nel campo dell’Ingegneria Civile e Ambientale\, con l’obiettivo di promuovere future collaborazioni in questo ambito. \nSiamo inoltre lieti di annunciare che l’evento vedrà le presentazioni della Prof.ssa Cristina Jommi e del Prof. Liberato Ferrara del Dipartimento DICA.
