SUMMARY:PhDTalks | Towards the realization of Submerged Floating Tunnels
\nLo speaker Stefano Corazza condurrà un seminario dal titolo “Towards the realization of Submerged Floating Tunnels”.  \nAl termine dell’evento sarà disponibile un piccolo rinfresco finanziato dal dipartimento. \nSarà possibile seguire la conferenza anche online al seguente link. \nAbstract\nSubmerged Floating Tunnels (SFTs) are underwater modular structures which are deemed to be a valuable option for crossing deep and long waterways\, such as sea straits\, fjords\, bays and alpine lakes. Compared to classical aerial bridges\, they are characterized by (1) lower construction costs per unit of length\, (2) reduced environmental impact due to a smaller land footprint\, and (3) the ability to operate in all weather conditions. However\, due to their inherent flexibility\, they are very prone to the effect of dynamic loads such as marine currents\, earthquakes\, traffic and hydrodynamic loadings. This talk will provide an overview of the most common structural typologies of SFTs\, highlighting key design challenges and issues related to the simulation of their dynamic behavior. The presentation will conclude with recent findings on both analytical and numerical modeling of the local dynamics of the mooring system. \nSpeaker’s bio \n\nStefano is a PhD Candidate in Structural\, Seismic and Geotechnical Engineering (38° cycle). He holds a Master of Science in Structural Engineering from Politecnico di Milano\, obtained in 2022\, and is currently enrolled in the third year of the PhD program. His research focuses on developing a multiscale approach to address the nonlinear dynamic behavior of slender offshore structural elements and to describe fatigue damage accumulation under hydrodynamic loading conditions\, by means of both numerical and analytical tools. \nIn his free time Stefano enjoys traveling\, hiking\, playing tennis and padel.
