SUMMARY:PhDTalks | Assessment and retrofitting of deep foundations of existing bridges
DESCRIPTION:Il prossimo appuntamento con la serie di incontri PhDTalks si terrà Martedì 13 Giugno nell’aula 2.1.3 (Edificio 2)\, dalle 17:15 alle 18:30 CET. \nPhDTalks è una serie di seminari e discussioni tra dottorandi. Gli eventi hanno lo scopo di fornire un luogo dove creare un network tra dottorandi ed entrare in contatto con i molti progetti sviluppati nel nostro dipartimento. \nLo speaker Matteo Corigliano condurrà un seminario dal titolo “Assessment and retrofitting of deep foundations of existing bridges”.  \nAl termine dell’evento sarà disponibile un piccolo rinfresco finanziato dal dipartimento. \nSarà possibile seguire la conferenza anche online al seguente link. \nAbstract: \nMost of the infrastructures in Europe are approaching their design life and\, therefore\, their safety has to be reassessed according to the more severe design standards.  Nowadays the foundations of existing bridges are verified using models based on simplified assumptions\, which make the retrofitting measures often unsustainable. \nThe ultimate goal of the research is the introduction of a tool\, allowing a rapid and reliable evaluation of the foundation performance and providing hints for the most rational retrofitting. To this aim\, the results of finite element numerical analyses on a real case study have been theoretically interpreted\, obtaining significant insight in the mechanical response of pile groups. The innovative tool under development will lead to a more aware and sustainable design of bridge foundations retrofitting measures. \nSpeaker’s bio: \nMatteo is PhD candidate in Structural Seismic and Geotechnical Engineering and has a Master degree in Civil Engineering – Geotechnics.\nHis mainreserach interest is the interaction between soil and critical infrastructures (bridges\, emnbankments and tunnels).\nHe is now focused on the assessment and retrofitting of deep foundations of existing bridges.\nHe spends his free time playing tennis\, skiing and honing his photography skills.
