Creep and Shrinkage in reinforced concrete structures

5 Aprile 2022 @ 12:15 - 13:15

Martedì 5 Aprile si svolgerà presso l’aula Castigliano (edificio 5), un seminario dal titolo “Creep and Shrinkage in reinforced concrete structures” tenuto da Roman Wan-Wendner, Professore all’interno del Dipartimento di Ingegneria Strutturale dell’Univeristà di Ghent.

Abstract:

In recent years many concepts have been developed that are meant to ensure the adequate performance of our built infrastructure, new and existing. Next to ultimate capacity, serviceability and durability now also sustainability, robustness and resilience have to be properly addressed. All the aforementioned concepts require the accurate prediction of time-dependent response considering at least the evolution of mechanical properties, creep and shrinkage as they are always present – in lab tests as well as real structures – while the relevance of other processes depends on the specific situation. In this lecture an overview of creep and shrinkage mechanisms is given before covering the latest modeling and analysis techniques in relation to typical applications. Finally, short-comings and limitations of current approaches are discussed, ending in an outlook and current developments.

Speaker’s Biosketch:

Roman Wan-Wendner is Professor of Concrete Structures at the Department of Structural Engineering of Ghent University after serving as Director of the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Life-Cycle Robustness of Fastening Technology at BOKU Vienna. Roman specializes in research on the time-dependent performance of concrete structures, anchorages and the application of polymers in construction considering creep, shrinkage, degradation processes and curing-state dependent material properties.
