SUMMARY:Guideway Condition Monitoring\, Assessment\, and Maintenance Technology: Practices from the Shanghai High-Speed Maglev Line
DESCRIPTION:Data e oraGiovedì 11 dicembre\, ore 10:30 CET \nLuogoAula Lerici\, Edificio 3A – Politecnico di MilanoStanza virtuale: https://politecnicomilano.webex.com/meet/stefano.mariani \nRelatoreProf. Guofeng Zeng\, Tongji University \n\nAbstract \nIn December 2002\, the Shanghai High-Speed Maglev Demonstration Operation Line commenced trial operation\, designed for a operation speed of 430 km/h and achieving a test speed of 501 km/h. This marked the beginning of China’s high-speed maglev technology development. To this day\, the Shanghai line remains the world’s fastest ground transportation system in commercial operation. This report begins with an overview of recent developments in maglev technology in China. Then\, the report introduces the guideway system of the high-speed maglev system and its characteristics. The system imposes extremely high demands on the geometric precision and deformation requirements of the guideway. However\, as the Shanghai line was constructed on soft soil foundation\, its guideway service condition has degraded after over two decades of operation. To address this challenge\, the Maglev Center’s research team has\, over many years\, conducted research on vehicle-guideway dynamics theory\, guideway detection\, monitoring and maintenance technologies. The team has proposed a guideway maintenance methodology based on “dynamic simulation + data-driven” approaches and has preliminarily established an integrated “air-ground-rail” monitoring system for guideway service condition. This report provides a comprehensive presentation of these achievements\, along with the practical experience gained from providing technical services for the operation and maintenance of the Shanghai line’s guideway system. \nSpeaker’s bio \nZeng Guofeng\, Ph.D. Professor\, Doctoral Supervisor，Deputy Director of Maglev Transportation Engineering Technology Research Center\, Tongji University. Dr. Zeng has long been engaged in research on maglev line and track systems. He has achieved significant research outcomes in key technological areas including maglev track structures\, guideway switch systems\, maglev vehicle-track interaction theory\, as well as maglev guideway detection technology and system condition assessment. He led the development of China’s first low-speed turnout for high-speed maglev systems and the world’s first gear-rack driven high-speed maglev turnout\, based on which he also spearheaded the development of the first 600 km/h high-speed maglev turnout. He directed the design of China’s first three-segment centering medium-low-speed maglev turnout and subsequently completed the construction design of all turnouts for the Changsha medium-low-speed maglev line. These achievements were awarded the First Prize of Hubei Provincial Technology Invention Award in 2019. Dr. Zeng presided over the project “High-speed Maglev Line Geometry Rapid Detection Equipment and Maintenance Technology” under the National Key Technology Support Program\, achieving line inspection at speeds of up to 430 km/h. He established a service condition assessment system for high-speed maglev systems\, proposing for the first time a systematic set of evaluation indicators and methods for the state of high-speed maglev systems. Throughout his years of research\, he has led one National Key Basic Research Program and is leading a National Key R&D Program project focused on theoretical research of high-speed maglev systems. The research project titled “Study on the Mechanism of Dynamic Stability in Conductor-Rail High-Speed Maglev Train-Turnout Systems” that he conducts has received funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). In the past decade of research\, he has authored one monograph\, published over 30 papers\, obtained more than 10 invention patents\, chaired the compilation of three group standards on turnouts\, and participated in the formulation of two national maglev standards.
