SUMMARY:Recycled Aggregate Concrete Composite Structures
\nAbstract \nNatural sand and stone resources are depleting rapidly\, and there is an urgent need to optimize the disposal methods for waste concrete. Recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) provides an effective solution to address these challenges. Steel-concrete composite structures can fully leverage the properties of materials\, compensating for the lower mechanical performance and higher discrepancies of RAC. The establishment of RAC mechanical properties models and the development of design method for steel-RAC composite structures is crucial for promoting the structural application of RAC. This presentation will delve into the influence mechanism of recycled aggregates\, discussing key issues in the development of mechanical property models for RAC and design methods for steel-RAC composite structures. Finally\, this presentation will introduce the proposed models for mechanical properties of RAC and design methods for RAC filled steel tubes and steel-RAC composite slab/beam systems\, addressing both load-carrying capacity and long-term performances. \nBio-sketch \nHuan Zhang is Associate Professor of Structural Engineering in the School of Civil Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology. His research interests lie in the behaviours of steel-green concrete composite structures\, especially their long-term behaviours. He has published over 20 SCI/EI technical papers including Cement and Concrete Composites\, Engineering Structures\, Construction and Building Materials\, etc. He has been granted sever patents and two software copyrights by the Chinese government. He serves on the editor board of the Chinese design standard for recycled concrete composite structures (CSCS) that issued by the China Steel Construction Society. Prof. Zhang presided 5 scientific research projects\, including one project from National Natural Science Foundation of China. He was awarded the first prize for scientific and technological progress by the Hei Long Jiang Province Government. \n

SUMMARY:Behaviour of CFST Columns with Localized Corrosion Damage
DESCRIPTION:Martedì 24 ottobre alle ore 15.30 presso l’Aula Grandori (Edificio 4 – p.za Leonardo da Vinci\, 32 – Milano) si terrà un seminario dal titolo: “Behaviour of CFST Columns with Localized Corrosion Damage“\, tenuto da Chen Jia\, postdoc presso l’Harbin Institute of Technology\, Cina. \nAbstract \nDue to the outstanding structural performance\, concrete-filled steel tubes (CFST) are extensively applied in contemporary structures in marine towers\, bridge piers\, and coastal platforms. CFSTs can be subjected to localized corrosion damage during their long-time service\, because of the metallic properties of the steel tube and the corrosive medium in harsh working environments. Localized corrosion damage would cause a detrimental effect on CFST columns since it induces the continuous loss of the cross-section area of the steel tube\, as well as the loss of the confinement on the core concrete. This presentation will show the experimental and numerical investigations on CFSTs with simulated localized corrosion damage\, discuss corrosion-induced deterioration of load-carrying capacity of CFSTs\, and finally introduce the methods for predicting the residual strength of localized corroded CFSTs. \nBio-sketch \nDr. Chen Jia is now a postdoc at Harbin Institute of Technology. The main topics of her research are the post-corrosion performance of steel structures and steel-concrete composite structures. Dr. Jia presided/participated in 9 scientific research projects. She is co-author of over 20 papers published on Engineering Structures\, Thin-walled Structures\, Ocean Engineering et.al.\, and has acted as a reviewer for several scientific journals. She serves on the editor board of a design standard that issued by the China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization.
